Electronic Monitoring Bracelets

A new program in LA is using electronic monitoring bracelets to monitor elderly affected by autism and dementia.  Since October 2018, over 250 LA county residents have used LA Found and according to an article last month in AP News by Christopher Weber, already four people have been saved.

The program was partly the result of the disappearance and ultimate death of 55-year-old LA County resident Nancy Paulikas. She had Alzheimer’s and her husband Kirk Moody got no assistance from any agencies.  Her remains were found almost five months after her disappearance.  Moody recalls:

“I called every county office there is. And I found myself explaining things over and over because it was clear they weren’t talking to each other.”

Tracking occurs via patrol cars and helicopters carrying electronic carriers.
