A unique museum in New York—the Carter Burden Gallery– exhibits artwork by seniors.
Open only to artists aged 60 or above, the Carter Burden Gallery showcases the artwork of older, lesser-known artists. Paintings, photographs and other art mediums are displayed. Social events and art-related discussions are held at the gallery, with artwork available for purchase.
The Carter Burden Gallery believes in giving older people a voice and a space for their talents. When seniors create art, their art often remains unrecognized and unappreciated; this gallery solves that issue while simultaneously creating social opportunities for seniors.
The gallery, which is located in Chelsea, NY, has been very successful.
The gallery has displayed the work of over 200 artists over the past nine years. The gallery accepts artwork submissions on an ongoing basis, and is committed to “empowering re-emerging, professional older artists through the exhibition and cultivation of their work.”
