Although seniors might not be affected by the flow of the school year, they are certainly affected by the great weather summer brings. When warm weather arrives the words ‘summer vacation’ often pop into our consciousness, biting us with the desire to go places and do things out of the ordinary routine.
Visiting one or more National Parks in the amazing US National Parks system is the perfect way to spend one’s summer vacation. Senior citizens are no exception. As a matter of fact, exceptions are made for seniors at the parks in an enticing way.
For only $10 any US citizen over the age of 62 can purchase a Senior Pass. This pass is valid for life, and entitles its owner to free access to over 2,000 recreation sites which are managed by six different Federal agencies.
Those agencies include:
- The Forest Service
- The National Park Service
- Fish and Wildlife Service
- Bureau of Land Management
- USACE
- Bureau of Reclamation
To purchase a Senior Pass you can go to any participating Federal recreation site or office. You can also buy one through the USGS online store, but that method will cost an additional $10 for a document processing fee, and must be paid with a credit card. You can also purchase through the mail using a paper application and enclosing $20.
